Shuttleworth Gladiator forced landing 4/6/17 - all well!

Hats off to whoever it was that safely landed the Gladiator in a cornfield near Old Warden this afternoon after the engine started misbehaving rather badly while leading a formation.

Forgive me for Monday morning quarterbacking but curious why he didn't climb out of the formation at the first sign/sound of trouble.

Well that's going to confuse the CAA, as the Gladiator is classified as a 'Simple' aircraft. And they've been telling us in recent years that it's only those dastardly 'Complex' jets that have problems at air shows and which need to be grounded.

Did he squawk 7700 on FR24 and carry out a missed approach?

He pulled off a very smooth landing in a field of barley. Could have been a different story for virtually any other biplane with a straight through axle.

Good thing he wasn't indulging in anything as lethal as "high energy manoeuvers" too, apparently.

Safely towed back on Sunday evening, no airframe damage I believe.
