RAF Service No.

Could anybody tell me when the following airman's service no. was issued:

4025399

I think it was late 1940s, but confirmation would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

looks like your man joined in the 1946 - 1948 period:

4017000 to 4029999 Dec 1946 Regular enlistments Non ATC Cardington.

According to RAF/RAF OR Service Numbers it's part of a block used for those entering the RAF at Cardington, from December 1946.

Hi Gents

I have just found my grandfather's service number and some other info from his Demob card, for his WW2 service - service number 1176069, which puts attestation at Cardington 1940.

This agrees with the card info date, 02/08/40.

He passed on just over 25 years ago now, so obviously I can use the third party disclosure route to access his records.

However, He was first in The RAF in the early 30's, serving around 1933/4 Bicester area (I'm pretty sure he was at Upper Heyford, but may also have been at RAF Bicester as well).

On looking at Numbers listed, I find it hard to see any relevant to when he first would have joined (believed 1932/33)

Does anyone have any advice? I'd obviously like to get all records if possible

I have just received a two-house brick sized package containing a copy of every piece of paper the RAF had on me, in two periods of commissioned service, starting with my Headmaster's recommendation for an RAF Scholarship. One source of amusement is that not every RO wrote what he said he had written, sometimes for good, at others less good! But overall it is a long but interesting read. The best line, written during first time round and when I had made what I soon realised was not the best "Service" marriage - "I have not met his wife".
