Video from the Past Series

So there it is: a brand new youtube series featuring historical figures like fighter aces Douglas Bader and Johnnie Johnson, Supermarine test pilots Alex Henshaw and Jeffrey Quill, aircraft & engine engineers like Cyril Lovesey and Sir Stanley Hooker and family members of the original Spitfire designer Reginald J. Mitchell. I hope you folks enjoy it!

Thank you very much Chuck.

Good stuff - I especially liked the Hanna Reitch and Winkle Brown interviews as I have been lucky enough to meet them both.

You actually met Hanna and Winkle? Wow, you must've had a blast.

Hanna Reitsch is such a colorful (and I mean it in a good way) and passionate character that it is hard not to be infected by her energy.

What did you folks talk about, out of curiosity?

Chuck

I explained that she had been my heroine for many years and that I did not have heros as there was nothing odd about me. The venue was the Beverly Hills Hilton at an SETP do around 71/72.

Incidently Winkle (who had a lot to do with her after the war) only last week said that she wrote to him just before she died "this is a journey that started at the bunker and finishes here". She had earlier told him that she (amongst others) was issued with a cyanide pill when they visited the bunker just before the Russians arrived. I suppose that there has to be a possibility that she eventually used it in 1979. But don't start saying that Farley said she did! I have no idea what brought on her heart attack. Nor has Winkle.

Missing 1980 ITV Documentary.

HELP...!

I've been searching for ages for a copy of an old Thames TV video called 'Spitfire MH434' first transmitted on ITV 16/09/1980. I can only find a short fragment on You Tube. Does anyone here know where I can find a copy of this please...?

Many Thanks,
GQ2.

Very many thanks Chuck Owl,

I shall enjoy watching those vids.

Why on earth can't the TV of today produce such interesting documenteries. The 'modern' ones all seem to have a sound track of drums in the foreground, most annoying, to the point of being un-watchable.
