Airship Photos
Definitely LZ127 Graf Zeppelin. The fifth engine gondola and the bumper skid on the lower vertical stabilizer are the clincher. The photos would have been taken prior to 1933, when swastikas were painted on the left side of the vertical stabilizers and the tricolor German flag were painted on the right.
I can't tell for sure, but is that a mooring tower in the background of the first photo? Do you know where the photos were taken, ancientaviator?

Was going to say I think that's the Graf Zeppelin but I didn't register that the Hindenberg was also represented.
I'm not going to be able to write a Major Scott book in the short term but on the basis of what has been said on this thread I think I will do it after my Mexico vs. Texas Naval War of 1842 book (that's a pleasantly obscure story).
If anyone has any leads to personal papers or anecdotes relating to Major Scott and his fellows could they PM me so I can start collecting information.

Thank you all for your replies. I had assumed the pics were taken in the UK but my wife informs me that her mother used to travel to Europe pre WW2 so the pics could easily have been taken in Germany. The back of the pics are blank so no help there.

Hi,
Is this thread still active? I have just spent the weekend with descendants of three different crew members who served under Major Scott on the R.34’s transatlantic crossings, one of whom, Jack Pritchard, was a close friend of Scott’s. We have a small community of R.34 devotees here in the UK working on developing her legacy. We’d be interested to hear if you ever tracked down descendants of Major Scott.
