Thanks for the link! I was at Boeing just after the incident and the entire Fuel Quantity & Gauging System was redesigned because of it.

ICT SLB,

Can you give us a summary of the redesign?

I only looked at the interface with EICAS but seem to remember additional strapping for Imperial/Metric and a return 429 bus from the DCU to the FQGC to confirm that. Sorry but it is nearly 30 years ago!

Captain Bob Pearson 30 Years Later

I think that naming Toronto Airport after him was a wonderful gesture.

Pearson airport,

DaveReidUK,

According to a book I read about the incident the airport was renamed after an Canadian former Prime Minister with the same name.

So it is a pure coincidence.

It amazes me as to how the media always seem to make heros out of pilots who screw up, ie the dead stick into Gimli, and the repeat perfomance of Transat, its worth noting that neither of these pilots captained an aircraft again for their respective airlines, for those" in the know" we all understand why this action was taken, as for the inquiry outcomes, at least one of them deserves the Pulitzer prise for fiction, suffice to say the "metric" debate was used to great advantage by some very able lawyers.
