ALA Littoria..Savoia Marchetti S.73's

Hello all,
Can anyone out there supply or point me in the direction of, a fleet list of Savoia Marchetti S.73's, as operated by the the Italian airline ALA Littoria, during the 1930s?

Had a search online but cannot seem to come up with much, failing this a 'historic' Italian civy register would be handy...thanks in antipation!
Posso.

Ala Littoria S.73 s

The Putnam 1966 "European Transport Aircraft since 1910" by John Stroud has a production list which gives 22 as confirmed Ala Littoria, togther with other unconfirmed Italian registered + others supplied to Belgium, & Czechoslovakia. If you PM me with your E-Mail address and I can send a copy of the list as an attachment.

The Golden Years of Aviation site, now defunct, was fortunately archived by the 'Wayback Machine' and the pre-war I- register is here

Thanks for that, A30YoYo - I was afraid it had vanished forever.

For X-checking from Strouds Wings of Peace Aeroplane Jul84p373 they were
PISA,ENNA,GELA,LODI,ORTE,ASTI,CORI,NOTO,SUSA,ESTI/OSTE,ARCO,NISA,ATRI,OLDA,MEDA,NOLA,NOVI,TODI,VADO,ELVO,IESI, VELO

I think the separate ALI fleet got absorbed into ALA LITTORIA in WWII....are you writing an article or book?

The Aeroplane 1984 article list has two differences from Strouds earlier book ATRA vs ATRI & VEIO vs VELO.

From the Golden years register it seems ATRI and VEIO are correct and that typos may have got into both the book and the article.

If you put S.73 and S.73 Pipistrello into 'advanced search' on GAVS - Gruppo Amici Velivoli Storici - Registro Civile Italiano you get a list and a few pics.

Hi A30,
Many thanks for your continued input, not writing a book or article. Trying to ID a photo that belongs to a pal of mine, shows a crashed Littoria S.73. (alas do not have the photo to post of the thread).

Looks to be a belly landing in the desert, following an engine problem, location possibly Egypt circa 1938. Trying to find a likely candidate!

Your links to the Italian registers very handy, thanks once again.

Cheers, P.

Not one of these pics is it?https://sites.google.com/site/lgarey/benghazigraveyard

And I just remembered this page....you can get a workable Google translation from the Italian (it translates the registrations, too )

G.M.S. - Gruppo Modellistico Sestese

Nope not one of the ones in the Benghzai bone-yard, did come across some of these pix during my intial search.

My pals photo looks to be pre-war, an 'incident' rather than a scrap yard shot..The plane has 'locals' with Fez's on standing around it, all looking important, obscuring the reg..very thoughtless of them!

Thanks again for the links. P

ALA Littoria..Savoia Marchetti S.73's

Hi Posso
I have 6 images of the crash you described in your post.
I recognize the I-ATRI letters by composing them from the various shot.
Those images was taken by the archibishop Gustavo Testa, former Apostolic Delegate in egypt during the period 1934-1948.
Have you discovered anything about the crash (crew, place and date etc?)
How can we exchange our images?
can i give you my email address?
Marco

"Aesthetically pleasing"

I would agree with that, and so would have Herge who illustrated one so well in Tintin's "King Ottokar's Sceptre"

As I understand is pictureposting merely links to where ones photos may be present on the web.
That will mostly be own website as most picture-services aparantly isn't as easy to get access to :-/

I-ATRI crash

Uploaded for Marco....and I-ATRI is listed as written off February 1939 so the actual crash could be some weeks or months earlier...will add any other info later
