DFM during Malayan Emergency

I am acting on behalf of the family of Flt Sgt John Edward Payne, sometimes known as "Purdy", who was awarded the DFM on 7 Jun 1960 during the Malayan emergency. I believe he was flying a Valetta at the time.

John Payne is a bit frail now and cannot recall the details of the incident. Both he and his family would like to find out more about the events leading to the award.

If anyone out there could provide any useful information I would be extremely grateful.
