A Lithuanian (came to UK after WW2) retained contacts in his former country. After the demise of the USSR things opened up, and a contact had a range of useful supplies from a warehouse packed with surplus stuff on an old airfield somewhat similar to the pic in post 1.

One morning his contact arrived to find that overnight the place had been emptied and my friend's source suddenly dried up. The former Soviet Union is a cross between a jungle and the wild west.
