Libyan Arab Midair 22/12/1992: investigation may re-open, according to BBC

The midair was blamed on an accidental midair. Coverup claimed by pilot of Libyan MIG23 who was blamed and imprisoned by Gaddafi. A Libyan accident investigator who now lives in the US also calls for reinvestigation. All aboard the 727 perished.

Rather confusing piece, which manages to argue simultaneously that the Libyan 727 was destroyed by an on-board bomb, and/or shot down.

The conflicting theories are attributed to the MiG pilot and the relatives of the victims, respectively - I can't see any quotes in the article from accident investigators, where did that come from?

Thanks for that. Here's the link to the piece on the BBC website:

If it sounds like a conspiracy theory, it is not discounted as such by Libya's new rulers.
Acting President Mohamed Magarief attended an event to mark the 20th anniversary of the disaster.
In his speech, he described the destruction of flight 1103 as a "crime" and promised to seek "justice and compensation" for those who lost loved ones.
It sounds like a money grab, but by whom and from whom?

Aerolinee Italia DC 9

In 1980 a DC 9 was shot down in Italian airspace.
The Libyans were blamed. All of the Italian radar tapes were destroyed.
Various witnesses dissappeared.
Eventually a letter appeared in the Times from an officer who had been ordered to destroy the tapes.
One theory that it was shot down by an American aircraft in error as they had intercepted Ghadaffi's aircraft.
Three years ago I read that there was an ongoing Italian court investigation as it had been shot down by a NATO aircraft - probably a French one.
Ghaddafi's aircraft had a Mig escort which was shot down but when it was the turn of his twin jet the missile hit the DC9.
So nothing new in yet another murderous attack.
No doubt one day we will learn the truth of the Iranian Airbus shooting down
And pigs will fly. Im Shallah.

Not an accident, and while it may not have affected your life, it affects the life of one individual on this forum every single day. And who knows, maybe others too.
