Question de Havilland Comet

The Comet made it's first scheduled flight from Heathrow to Johannesburg in May 1952. I think this was two years before the Boeing 707 made it's maiden flight.

Does anybody have any info about celebrations planned to commemorate this outstanding achievement?

The Dan-Air Staff Association and other Comet buffs, will be holding a dinner and other commemorative events at the RAF Museum Cosford on 2ndMay2002. Contact the D.A.S.A . at "Dolbybrook",Ifield Road,Charlwood, Surrey,RH6 0DR. or www.danair.webcentral.com.au for further info. Weather and committments permitting, DASA is working to provide some level of flying display featuring other fine De-Havilland products. For those who can get to RAF Cosford, it sounds like a wondeful commemoration of a fabulous aircraft.

Question

There is a fully restored (externally) DH Comet at rest just outside of the Aviation maintenance Technical School which is a division of the Everett Community College in Everett, Washington.

I believe that most of the work and the external painting was performed by Boeing Personnel.

Some further information for the true aviation buff who appreciated the contribution of the Comet. For those in the UK who can make it to RAF Cosford on 02May2002 and need details, please contact

Sheila Horton 01509-508-208 or e-mail [email protected] or Captain Bryn Wayt 01435-864937 or e-mail [email protected], or [email protected].

Anybody in the UK who can make it ,should join the good people of Dan-Air who flew more of them and longer than anybody else, in raising a glass or three of Theakstons to the original Gracefull Lady.
