RAE/DERA HS. Gnat XP505
This was converted to single seat operation for low level gust research at Bedford Thurleigh. The rear cockpit had the ejector seat removed and replaced with calibration unit. Can anybody provide any details of the size/photos of the unit installed ?
Bu%%*r!
It was a simple link to Thunder & Lightnings which has XP505 in its RAE finish on display at the Science Museum at Wroughton. Currently the collection is closed to the public due to engineering work, but there are several methods of enquiry on the website.
You may find that you can go see the real thing here
or maybe not
Not maybe, but certainly

Sure I've seen a picture of this Gnat taken my my uncle after a major mishap at Thurleigh, that was apparently hushed up as the pilot who was in charge was quite high up/shouldn't have been flying her... or maybe that's my childhood recollection!
