La Palma's old airport at Buenavista de Arriba?

Has anyone got any pictures/stories from this airport's active days, or can point in the right direction? Have searched the internet high and low but can't seem to find anything...

Many thanks in advance

Aeropuerto Viejo or Aeropuerto de Buenavista de La Palma

You can find three tiny photos of the old airport on this Spanish written website

The Old La Palma Airport.

Hi. I am a recently joined member. I have no pictures of the old airport, but I've got a story for you. I'm on the island of La Palma right now, staying at an hotel 1km from the end of the runway at the new airport & have a perfect view.

The other day I went on an organised excursion to the north of the island, the Tour Guide was Swedish but was brought up on LP. He said that the old airport was dangerous & that often the wind would be blowing in different directions at opposite ends of the runway. It was also subject to fog. He said he could remember DC-3's & F-27's flying in & out - he actually named the types.

Following a non-fatal accident it was decided to build the new airport. This airport is unique in Spain in that electricity is provided by 2 giant wind turbines - only one is turning right now. There are 2 flights a week from the UK, one from MAN the other from LGW, I came on the LGW. Most flight (about 3 jets a day) come from Germany. There seems to be a kind of shuttle service between here & TFN operated by Binter Canarias. I'm taking lots of vid of comings & goings!

The Old La Palma Airport.

Part of the runway is still visible. I was there last week & there were kids riding their bikes on it. The control tower looks derelict. An IKEA store is next to it - there was a sale on.
