I was on 23 Sqn in 1962 when the Station Commander directed a bit of a blitz on driving on the base. I remember one verse from a song written & performed by Vaughn Radford at a 74 Sqn party, who was a talented guitarist. It went to the tune of the Lonnie Donegan hit “Puttin’ on the Agony”:
“To Chief Inspector Malins and his Road Traffic Act,
His white lines, signs and licences, this song is sung with tact,
Stopping at a halt sign was quite enough before ,
But now we’ve got a speed limit on Runway 04”.
Gp Capt Malins was also at the party and his applause looked genuine.

Great memories, I was born and brought up in Norwich and the Coltishall Open Days were a regular feature. Thanks orionsbelt for the pointer.
The foam from blood used to really stink, I did my flying scholarship at Carlisle in 1968, they had a fire drill across the way from to accommodation huts and we had the full benefit of the smell!
