Looks like a transparency to the left of the image, but surely not, some highly polished metal then?

Nothing transparent Harley, just highly polished metal as you have suspected.

I guess then we are looking at the outboard engine of a pair, leading to a 4 engine type with smallish engines?

Like this:

Lockheed JetStar, like what the gorgeous Pussy Galore flew in Goldfinger

I have nothing to post at the moment so if I'm right; OH

Thanks Harley, I beat you to it by a Gnat's Crochet, I think.

Do we need Skytrain's approval to move on? Having counted the blades etc, I'm happy we're right, but do those rules apply outside silhouette challenge?

I have a challenge prepared...

Evening TheiC,

I'm just monitoring my SC at the moment; I expect that Ken will check-in any time now before he shuts down for the night.

However, it is pretty obvious that you and HQ have got the correct answer, so I'm sure he will be happy for you to take control and post your challenge!

Lockheed JetStar,
Yep, that's the one - of course not the original engines but the Garrett TFE731 powered JetStar 731.

If I didn't know better I would say we are looking down on a wing pylon mounted engine...but if that were the case the aircraft concerned appears to be in the process of doing a loop, which is not something one would normally associate with such aircraft....so wild guess, A-3 Skywarrior?

Edit, 2nd thought...no, the pylon is wrong.

Not a pylon-mounted engine, and not an A3, I'm afraid...

The attitude is, as you say, not as would be expected. It was photographed in unusual circumstances, so wise players will not be led astray by its orientation...

It puts me in mind of a wing tip fuel tank

Would that be in a museum against the background?

Not a wing-tip fuel tank, I'm afraid, Harley.

Not photographed in a museum, LM, and I can say: ignore the background!

This feature is also in the original shot (not to scale):

Struggling to get this one in to any kind of perspective. If it's not on a pylon then by definition it must be integral.
Stupid questions...this is an aircraft isn't it? And we are looking at an engine? May as well clarify that before moving on
