Which Aerodrome Mk III
That is interesting - I checked the Kanji script for all the airports in Hokkaido and couldn't find a match.
All is clear now. The characters for Memanbetsu Kūkō are 女満別空港. The sign on the terminal building is facing away from the airside and so is reversed!
Normal:
Reversed:
女満別空港
I always love the formality of the ground crews in Japan, when departing.

W2 documentaries show that they did a similar thing for departing Kamikaze, but without the snowman

People at Gates? Really? Gates? History and Nostalgia? This is, after all, 'Aviation History and Nostalgia'.. I am frequently agog at the level of participation on this challenge. Can you just show a photograph of an aerodrome? You know, runways, taxiways and buildings? From above? Apparently not. A hedgerow on a Yorkshire farm is hardly a clue to an Argentinian aerophile, is it? If similar standards were to be applied to "What Cockpit?", I would imaging close-ups of an ash tray. This 'What Aerodrome?' thread seems to have descended to an absolute #@$%^&! show. Just my opinion.
Normal Service will be resumed, folks

- A historic picture of an aerodrome will be posted. Newer pictures are allowed but the theme here is to compare/contrast old with new as well as identifying aerodromes which no longer exist.
- Try to use elderly photos and not Google Earth pics
- Try to post images that are not already present on internet, as Google Image Search will find them if they are.
Ok - here is an old picture of the same airfield...................
PS I run ALL the pictures I post through Google Image first to make sure it's not an easy shot for those who might fall into temptation..................

The overhead image appears to be a Warsaw Pact type airfield; haven't a clue where though.

Now you point it out it does rather look like something from the Pact - it definitely isn't tho'................ Go West Young Man!

Keep going west ...................................... It's NOT a Warsaw pact airfield - in fact I'm not sure it ever was a military field at all
Yes it's in the America's
It was a major factory airfield and still has a lot of facilities there tho' I don't think they build any airframes these days - but it was always a civilian airfield throughout

The area has been known as a point to measure distance/time from for over 50 years...............
