Trabant?

Could anyone explain the reference to a 'Trabant' in W/Cdr Holden's account.
I'm sure that the RAF didn't use the little East German car made of resin-bonded paper to carry messages- it would have lowered the RVR with the smoke.

The reason for the "Trabant" is, that the maker of PPRUNE has put a few jokes in it. When you write the name of this vehicle, it comes out as trabant!

Clear as mud...! Something to do with Leafsprings I take it...

I was drawn to this thread because of memories of a tale from 1974 when I first started work- A chap in the factory had been a technician in the RAF, and one day he related a seemingly tall tale of witnessing an inadvertant flight by a Lightning at Lyneham, without canopy, with a 'fitter' seated at the controls. I was sceptical because I had flown out of Lyneham in C130s with the Air Training Corps and doubted that Lightnings were ever based there. Now I know!
