The Mysterious Tempair
Does anyone remember the mysterious and illusive Tempair of the mid 1970's? Or did anyone have any first hand experience. A British registered company with a couple of Boeing 707's operated under many guises out of Africa to name but a few, but always came home for maintanence. I always thought they were the Aviation equivalent of having a Swiss bank account

I seem to remember a 707-321 in AUH or perhaps SHJ at about that time, but only very vaguely.

I talk several times a week to one of the SFOs listed there. He lived in Tye Green Sp?? just north of the runway. I wonder if his lovely cottage is still there.

Tony Griffin was a pioneer of jet ACMI: 1975 | 2766 | Flight Archive. He put the Vanguards into Merpati and facilitated extraction of the Viscounts from CAAC, via Manila, into Bouraq. The "mystery" of the man is in how he had the patience to do business in sectors unattractive to the big fellas who would make operating leasing so hefty a force in air transport.

I worked for Templewood Aviation in 1974/1975. They had very plush offices in Windsor with views of The Thames on one side and Windsor Castle the other side. They payed well above average whilst I was there. The main contracts I flew on were Invicta and Somali Airlines B720's. Things started to go wrong when they aquired 2 clapped out 707-321's to do The Hadj with. They started paying half salary so I moved on.

I don't know about them being 'mysterious and elusive' what with the aforementioned lavish offices in Thameside, Windsor, and full-page adverts in the back of 'Flight.'
In early 1980, when they went into liquidation, Monarch acquired the remainder of the Air Malta contract, along with the lease on the 707-123B G-BHOX in Air Malta colours, and three temporary captains.

Barry Byrne was one of the temporary captains at Monarch.

B720B with Somali Airlines (G-BCBB) - know a song about that. Tempsford Senior was a Flight Engineer with Templewood on that contract. He also picked up the Invicta B720B (G-BCBA) fom the USA, it had to have two more overwing exits added to put it on the UK register.
