This stuck a Chord
In another place, I have just set a Brain Teaser and during the course of my research on the subject I found this foreword from one of their books:
“Once, a long time ago, I knew that all I ever wanted was to fly, to just float around in the cool sky, playing with the clouds, looking at the land and sea below, toy-like and beautiful.”
Whilst never becoming a pilot (although involved with Aviation in one form or another all my adult life) this still stuck a chord. I remember reading some of her Books and think that this is sort of role model Girsl (and boys) ought to have.
As your all Guru's you will know the Answer to who the subject is, but I still thought the lines were worth sharing,

twochai - No Sorry not Beryl Markham!
To avoid this becoming a serious Brain Teaser, due my less than well written original post, I will give two Clues, because then as Guru's it will be a race to get it:
Birth Surname Edmonds
Awarded the Jean Lennox Bird twice, but sadly not around to collect the second
