Battle of Britain Airshows 2010

I am fortunate enough to be in the UK when the Shoreham and Duxford B of B airshows are on. My itinerary is flexible but only so far as being able to attend one of them. Can anyone make a recommendation as to which one they would consider to be the better of the two for this anniversary year and why? I am aware of Duxfords historical significance with regards to the B of B but I am mainly interested in the flying component as I have a major interest in aircraft of this era. Thanks in advance.

I have never been to Shoreham, but haven't missed a Duxford show in years [partly because my wife works there on Airshow Days]. The only guide I can give is that Duxford is absolutely unique in the type of flying, the quality, number of aircraft to be seen, hangars absolutely brim full of historic aircraft, a great atmosphere, and the best Warbird piloting in the world bar none!!. Should the weather turn poor, and unflyable, then there is a vast amount to see, whereas at Shoreham, nothing. Hope you enjoy whichever one you attend. Cheers, John.

As Shoreham is on 21-22 August it isn't actually a "Battle of Britain" Air Show.

There are a few airshows in September claiming to be "Battle of Britain" air shows but the only one that really qualifies for that title (but doesn't use it!) is RAF Leuchars on 11th September.

Anyone else remember the good old days when RAF stations all over the UK used to hold "Battle of Britain Day" airshows on the Saturday nearest 15th September?

As an alternative to Shoreham why not try Bournemouth the same weekend - it's free and then save your money for Duxford!

Yes Groundloop I remember well, I was doing my CPL with AST at Scone aerodrome and went to Leuchars for the 1973 Battle of Britain airshow with a few other students..........it left a lasting impression!

Ah, Lightnings and Phantoms at the same station - and sheltering from the rain under a Vulcan!

Just rung Duxford and been told that they are not accepting GA traffic at the airshow on 16 May. Rather sad...

Could we be looking at 20+ Spitfires at Duxford?
