Whatever personal opinions may be about the man and his failings, because he loathed to hear his behemoth called anything but the H-4 or Hercules, as a mark of respect, she should be referred to thusly.

Looking at the film footage it seems to me that the aircraft was lacking in lateral control; when comparing with other large flying boats they seem to get both floats out of the water early on- the Goose just stumbled along one wing low.
I think cross wind could be a factor. Many flying boats do the same thing. Remember she was not at full up weight during the one flight, so only having one float off the water is not alarming.

Almost as good as the A400 Grizzly

It might surprise readers to know that a Flight Manual was produced for the Kaiser-Hughes HK-1. So much effort for one brief flight!
