Mighty Eighth Airforce Museum
I had the opportunity to drop by the Mighty Eighth Airforce Museum in Savannah, Georgia USA yesterday. I can highly recommend it if you are in the area.
The museum traces the history of the 8th AF from its very humble origins, being activated at a National Guard meeting house in Jan 1942, to its eventual massive strength in the UK during 1944-45.
Exhibits include a B-17 undergoing restoration and in my opinion more fascinating for being able to view the bare bones of the structure, a large scale model of Deenethorpe air base crica 1943, a B-47, and many more. Some of the museum guides are 8th AF vets of the time and are fascinating to speak with.
Located just off Interstate 95 in Savannah, the location is very handy for vacationers on the US east coast.
I'd recommend at least 2-3 hours to properly experience the exhibits. There is a charge of $10 per person. Discounts apply to military, senior citizens and the young but I didn't note all of them.

Given my background in a different force, I can only say the USAF owes me for this plug!
