Can anyone tell me what these are?
A little info one is an auto pilot component.the bigger box says april 11, 1947 "preflight tested for data as of aug 9, 1949. and the little one i have no clue. here is some pics so you see what i see.

So inside the boxes there is a cylinder that spins on one axis inside two 1/4 circles. now i dont know anything about aircraft but could it have anything to do with turbulance.. like a meter or for a gauge? The bigger box says "line of flight" maybe that will help...
Could be a very early Sperry basic gyro system.
Looks like a single gyro, so would have been a basic "wing leveller" system. I don't think there were accelerometers back then, as in inertial systems.

The second picture down shows, presumably, the case for the gyro. It seems to have some script and numbers on it. A clearer view of the writiing on the case might show either a sect/ref or part number which could be used to identify the component.

I would like to put two cents in, there appears to be two covered gyros-one with an indicator to be aligned with the a/c centre line would be an azimuth gyro whilst the other would be a vertical gyro-the former giving azimuth information (in conjunction with a compass) and the other for attitude. It is difficult to tell from the photographs provided, whether the gyros are air driven or electric because of the absence of detail on the housing. It would be my guess that they are electrically driven. Best of luck

sorry everyone about the delay, i forgot i posted this here! You all have good information and opinions but i know nothing about airplanes so maybe im asking the wrong questions. really what im looking for is: is there a market for these type of gadgets or should i just throw them in the trash? the date stamped on them is well past antique and i do believe them to be military, are there people out there still looking for this type of stuff? thanks for all the help!

Looks like a one-off Instrumentation Recorder part, esp' if that's orange wiring ?
Where and when it was found could therefore still be of great interest.
Don't know about as early as 1947, but later on anything wired with orange was and as far as I know still is Instrumentation / test kit.

Ok maybe this will help. On the bigger box (picture #2) this is what it has stamped on it. " 677 apr 11 1947 preflight tested for data as of aug 9 1949 see aex 2512." What is AEX? Is that a part #? or where can i crossrefrence those #s? Thanks
