Signal Flares & Automatic Recognition Device colours…

We’re enabling the flare release and ARD for our model Whirlwind and need to find out the following.

Flares: What were the colour’s used and the type/order sequence of signals that were usually given?

The ARD I understand in the Whirlwind was just a signal pistol, but again I would need to know the colour’s used and signals usually given please…

Or is there a Air Ministry booklet with them all in?

Many Thanks

Stuart

Ex Whirlwind aircrew seem to be a bit thin on the ground don't they

A suggestion for you BlueSky is to go to the Gaining An R.A.F Pilots Brevet In WW11 thread in the Mil forum and send a PM to cliffnemo.

The available Very colours would have been the same standard issue throughout the RAF at that time, and he may recall what they were or suggest someone who might know.
