Mma Dc-3 Vh-mml
G'day all, I am setting up a team of people to help me to get VH-MML (currently VH-BPN) and bring her back to Western Australia. The intention is to get her airworthy again and back into MMA livery. I have been doing a lot of work and I am now at the stage where I need the support of the many people here with contacts, ex MMA staff etc. So please PM me with any info etc that would be helpful. I am going to be visiting some banks next week to set up a trust fund for the project and hopefully start the fundraising effort to get her back to where she belongs. My initial funraising target is $100,000 which would enable the transport of the aircraft from Bankstown to Western Australia (its a loooong way) So ANY help would be very grateful. I would also like to hear from anyone who would be able to help me set up the MMA Historic Flight group which would look after the aircraft and any other MMA items of interest and possibly some more MMA aircraft.
Regards

Do a bit of research on Classic Wings. There was a guy in Perth who was running a DC-3 on scenic flights but from what I heard CASA were getting right up there with requirements and stuff. He gave it a red hot go but the economy didn't help either so they had to shut up shop a few months back. If you want to speak to someone who's been there, done that, I say those are your guys.

You must be cashed up to consider this venture. I admire blokes like yourself who are prepared to put their hard earned into a project like this.
Hope it all works out for you. You may even be able to make a couple of bucks out of it when you establish your museum or whatever.

At the airport where I keep my private airplane, there are based...
a B-17, B-25, two P-51's (two place variety) and one DC-3, that take folks for rides nearly every weekend.
The FAA imposes some restrictions of course, such as...
Daylight VMC only
A maintenence program on file with the local FAA office
Someone known to the FAA responsible for continued maintenance
Pilot recurrect training
Flights must remain within 50 miles of the designated airport.
All in all, everyone has a good time, it appears.
The B-17 departed yesterday for its summer flying display elsewhere, and made a low (100 foot) pass over the runway to say 'goodbye for now'.
Quite a sight.

I do know the guys from Classic wings.
As for where she belongs - In the air.....
I hope to bring her Back to Perth and have something set up like HARS/Temora and not have the aircraft for commercial reasons. I Would like to preserve some of the rich aviation history in W.A. MML is important as she was the aircraft that was involved with the Air Beef scheme. (MMF was the first aircraft followed by MML for the duration) It is the last MMA DC-3 also that is available to restore back into the air.
MMA is in Darwin
MMB B/U
MMD is at the museum at Bankstown
MME Crashed
MMF is being restored at Bankstown
MMK B/U
MML is currently BPN
MMM B/U

Go for it. Good luck and fantastic idea.
The entire fleet of Dakota National Air DC3 aircraft was recently sent to austion but not sure how the sale went. However, it may be an opportune time to get your venture off the ground - literally.
