I was lucky enough to scrounge a back seat ride in a Hawk with 151 (F) Sqdn. in the very early '90's. (I was flying for the R.N. and R.M. parachute school at Dunkeswell at the time) Flt Lt. Steve Hunt was the pilot.
I thought it a superb place to have been stationed at and had the impression that everyone could'nt believe their luck at being posted there.

I wonder what happened to the Squadron stuff that was displayed, e,g. the large stuffed owl in a glass case etc. A couple of years ago I found the case sans owl in a junk shop in Wells, Somerset. I would have thought all these things would be safely stored somewhere.

In gratitude for my flight etc. I gave the Sqdn. a D.H. Venom N.F. model in a case, recieving a very nice letter of thanks, from the boss I think.
I would like to think it still exists somewhere.

I still have some excellent pics of the aircraft etc. from that day.

Indeed I was sailing this week with a former OC. Must ask him why it closed!

G'day

Clearing the runway

Hello - I tripped across this forum by chance and was interested to read from your blog that you were at Chivenor in the 60's during the hard winter. Do you recall talk of or were you there when they cleared the runway by making a big snowball - as you say I believe the snow remained until May.

My dad was one of the guys who was pictured in an official RAF Chivenor retrospective 'bio' book. Unfortunately he died young, before I can remeber him and I am trying to trace any pics (I only have one) or maybe anyone who knew or remembers him I know its a while ago

I have tried unsuccessfully to search the internet for more info, maybe you could suggest other places to look?

Thank you and good to hear that so many have good memories of the place. I was born in nearby Muddiford during my dad's posting his name was Anthony Douglas Wall (Tony) - he was a tech

Kind regards Heather (Wall)
