Centaurus Spitfire

Thumbing through history books I came across the statement that in 1939 Supermarines were looking at engines to replace the Merlin, including the Griffon. Were other engines considered? A Centaurus Spitfire would have been something!

it was, they changed the name to SEA FURY

Except that the Fury/Sea Fury was a Tempest development. Interestingly, it was a Griffon-engined Tempest prototype that was modified into the first Fury prototype

Slightly off track, this conversion Unreal Aircraft - Hybrid Aircraft - Supermarine/Daimler-Benz Spitfire isn't too displeasing to the eye.
