The Harvard clipped a roof on the South side of St Mary's Street and ended up across the road in Nice"s car showroom (Morris agents).
There was an extensive article with pictures in the "Ely Standard".
I can still visualise the scene as I saw it afterwards, don't recall any deaths but it is a long time ago.

p.s. I had forgotten about the poor lorry driver.

Harvard Crash in ELY

Pom Pax and Warmtoast

Many thanks for the extra information about the Harvard Crash in Ely. My wife's uncle showed me some photographs of the accident a little while a go, but have been unable up till now to get much information from the net.
My wife's grandfather (Mr Lane) took the photographs. He was a very well known local amature photographer and also took most of the photographs of the exploding railway trucks full of U.S.A.A.F. bombs in Soham.

Sent the link to the former Mrs W who is Ely born and bred - and lives back there now. She was six at the time and remembers the accident well.

I had a friend in the RAF, Iain Aubrey-Rees, (sadly no longer with us) who knew of this incident because ISTR his step father Flt Lt A-R was involved on the periphery, maybe as Duty Instructor that day.
