Paul Cullerne Avro Photographer

A close friend has just bought a large collection of chief Avro photographer Paul Cullerne's photos from a dealer.

As far as he knows, Paul died around 5 years ago?

The original photo's are of the Avro Aircraft, Mainly the 748 on it's tour of South America - G ARAY.

Others are taken from the Nimrod and other smaller types.

According to the letters in the collection, Paul lived in Lytham St Annes.

My friend is wanting to find out any more information about paul's Avro career & life etc.

Thanks In Advance

A lot of his air to air shots were taken from Dove 8 G-ARHW. He used to have the rearmost window removed and take the shots through the 'hole' whilst sitting on the (rather basic) loo!
Flew 'HW on a few of those.
Sorry to hear that he has passed away.

From what information I have, Mr Cullerne left the Air Force in 1946 as a Sergeant Photographer and spent part of his War service at RAF Nassau. On leaving the Air Force, he took up photographic work for Messrs A V Roe and Company Ltd. Sometime between then and the early '80s, he became Staff Photographer for the Company (through HSA and BAe). It seems that in his early days, he worked from an address in Levenshulme, Manchester.

The man who would probably have the most information would be Harry Holmes; effectively the Company historian. You could try and contact him via the AVRO Heritage Group Avro Heritage Group or the Rossendale Aviation Society Rossendale Aviation Society
