Re: the Channel Trident just a few slots above. Which airfield is that (looks like a runway 27L) ? Wouldn't have been Heathrow in those days (as they were then on 28L). Maybe an idea for the Which Aerodrome thread.

Well, GCC, the airport was known to have a few sheep grazing in the infield, and when required the herder and his sheep were escorted across taxiways by the airport authority. Sadly the airport is now closed.

PanAm livery

I've always thought that the "huge letters" livery was designed by Knut Marsen of Airbus for their A310s - good lad on liveries, was Knut !

I think the picture of the Channel Airways Trident was taken at Berlin Tempelhof back in the early 70s.
It should bring tears to my wife's eyes when I show her.........she was a wee young hostie with Channel at the time!

Always thought the original Air 2000 livery was one of the most elegant and striking. Darned fine airline too! Seen here at Heraklion.

Air 2000 Livery

Agree with Scotbill re his Air 2000 comments, but suspect the pic must have been somewhere else other than Iraklion.... at least, I never went there in daylight with them !

I did though - although the first Air 2000 arrival was in the dark!

I never liked flying into Iraklion at night!

Another successful colour scheme.

Iraklion

Only place in my career that I ever did two go arounds ( at night of course ) and then diverted to Chania. Huge hills on left side with a 40kt wind coming right across the RW Windshear windshear ( I can still hear it shouting at me! )

One usually did a visual downwind RH for RW 27 although there was an offset VOR approach. Horrible place when windy ( and usually was )
