Nice shot! Could you PM me a contact for the owner when you get a chance please?
Looking at the background, it looks as if it's Leuchars. I note that the Lightning's mainwheels are the early type, not often seen on photographs.

This one may interest you, Tim, from my collection of old company photos. From the days before telemetry! P1B's auto observer.

...spare a thought for the other book I have to tackle - on the TSR2!
You'll get plenty of publicity but nobody may buy your book..

Lightning
Hi Tim,
I never worked with Lightnings, though I remember seeing a couple do the near vertical climb from Leuchars when on holiday as a child ( whether they were QRA or just playing - sorry, exercising - is another matter).
It was only when I began work at Tangmere that I realised what a big brute of a machine it is; next to a Hunter it looks huge, and decidely un- agile !
Any old Lightning hands are welcome to clambour over it.

'Twas a magnificent machine. Just a great pity that it wasn't developed to its full potential thanks to the fools who kept-on believing that manned fighters were obsolete. I suppose it's the same people who are now obsessed with UAV's?!
