An aquaintence of mine was telling me about his brother who was shot down in a Halifax 5 days before the end of WW11. Could this have been the last bomber casualty of the war?

I think there were losses after the end of the war as everything was repositioned.

Also the war in Europe ended in May, in the Far East it carried on to September, and indeed there was a substantial movement started immediately after VE day to send European units over to Asia. There will have been further losses during this time.
