When was English established the standard aviation language?
Did the Treaty of Warsaw of 1955(?) have any thing to do with making English the lingua franca of the skys? Said treaty dealt with compensating air crash victims, I believe.
I am assuming that English is not required in intra-country flights, e.g., flights within Brazil by a Brazilian carrier.

I think this goes back to the founding of ICAO under the UN in, I think, 1947. All the various provisos about allowable use of the native language in its own airspace were spelled out at the same time if I recall.
