RAAF Meteor F8 A77-368

A77-368 (RAF Serial WA952) Meteor F.8 Delivered 08/01/51. Flew 485 missions in Korea with 77 Sqn RAAF. Pilot E Colebrook damaged a Mig 15 in combat Korea 3.11.1951. Sergeant R.L. Gilmour also flew the aircraft in Korea (obviously many more did as well). Was one of three aircraft of the original fourteen to survive the war. Withdrawn from use 11/04/60. Struck off 22/09/60. Was on Static Display at Treloar Technology Centre, Canberra ACT for Australian War Memorial. Now on display in the AWM's Anzac Hall. The aircraft has the name "Rosemary" painted in red beneath the cockpit left side (guess it would have picked up the name in Korea as that was the fashion at the time and place). Thats about all I've been able to find. A local paper has asked the question "Who was Rosemary and to which of the more than 100 pilots who flew the aircraft was she significant". Thanks in advance.

Hi Brian.

I'll see if I can find an answer to your question regarding "Rosemary". 77 Squadron RAAF in Korea is a subject of interest to me as well. In fact, my father flew A77-368 in Korea on a number of occasions.

I visited the Australian War Memorial recently where A77-368 has recently gone on display. I haven't sorted out posting an image here, (this is my first post), but here's a link to the page on my website that has a shot of the Meteor. http://www.owenzupp.com/warbirds.html There is also a photo of the Temora based Meteor.

Hope this helps and I'll endeavour to find out more.

Regards,

Owen
