Unarmed Spitfire "urban myth" kill query

Sitting with friends yesterday at Dilhorne in Staffs when a single Spit heading West-to- East flew over. Member of the group comments as to a story he's heard about a lady ferry pilot who was bounced by a ME 109 it seems during a ferry flight at low level ( hence no live weapons carried ) and who subsequently evaded the attacker, got on his tail and close up, thus causing the aircraft to crash as he tried to avoid what he thought was an attacking Spit. He added that the lady in question was credited with a kill, albeit not openly.

So, my question please is this. Does anybody here know if this actually happened and whom the lady was.....or is it just another urbam myth ?.
