Volunteering

Id be interested to hear from anyone involved in the restoration of aircraft as a volunteer. This is something i would like to be involved in. Is there anywhere in or near berkshire that is looking for volunteers?

I am interested in civil airliners and GA aircraft rather than millitary and am not sure whether these types tend to get left out a bit as they are not as glamerous to some people.

I enjoy getting my hands dirty and would like to be involved in the actual restration rather than working in the gift shop or with the public. Do you usually get a choice or do you start out showing people round etc.

Regards

Felix

Classic Flight up at Coventry have just started a new volunteer initiative. A bit more information can be found on their website, www.classicflight.com

Whilst perhaps not fitting in exactly with your requirements, there is the added attraction that all their aircraft are airworthy!

what about the Berkshire Aviation Museum at Woodley? When I was last there some years ago they looked like they could do with some help.
Also Brooklands - teenage son of a friend has been busy helping to put a Concorde back together.

Felixflyer, find out who's restoring what in your area and go along and "chat".In my experience, aviation minded people are ,moreoften than not, only too willing to show people their project and chat about their plans and,you may be invited to help.I was invited to go and take a look at a Jet Provost mk4 which is being restored back to being a "ground-runner" by a friend I had been chatting to on a a/c forum.I was introduced to the owner and after a few minutes I was invited to help. Its often as simple as that.I go once a week on a Saturday for a few hours and I thouroughly enjoy it.XS186 as she is affectionately known is based at the Metheringham visitors centre just south of Lincoln. Go for it.
