Happy Birthday Tiger Moth

It is Thursday 26 October 2006.

The Tiger Moth first flew from Stag Lane Aerodrome in the hands of Hubert Broad exactly 75 years ago today.

And still going strong.

Happy Birthday DH82A. Of course, the DH82 was an evolutionary development of the DH60T with the inverted Gipsy III engine, the first 8 were designated DH60T. So really the Moth is 81 and a half and still going strong.
Also not forgetting that the first Tiger Moth was the DH71, a pretty and very small monoplane racer which was first flown in 1927.

Still a young lady at 75 as I am sure she will outlive the lot of us.

I hung up my helmet many years back but still remember the aircraft with great affection. Pure unadulterated fun chasing over the salt marshes at 50ft one fine evening until we flew over a group of duck hunters who must have been sitting there for hours. Sorry lads.

Nowadays it is sadly just armchair flying but it brings some memories back.

I must dig out some real shots.. Ah, here's one.
