Victor photos - 1958 / 59 (New photos added on 15/10)

Edit - Have nearly finished scanning the photos from Dad's collection - so here are a few more for your enjoyment. The photos I posted originally are still here in case you missed them! As before - any memories / comments more than welcome!
Thanks again.

And the original post...........................

Hi folks
Have recently been scanning in some of my Father's photo collection for the sake of preservation and in order to send to an author. Dad was an Instrument Tech on XV Squadron at RAF Cottesmore from 1958 - 1962 and got the photos along the way.
I thought you'd like to see them - and if anyone has any memories from this time I know he'd love to hear them!
Enjoy!
Thanks
Gareth

As soon as I crank the scanner in to action there will be!

PS Top one is Akrotiri my Dad thinks, not Goose. Perhaps someone can identify?

Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the memory. I was with 10 Squadron (Victors) at Cottesmore 1959 - 61. Remember Johnnie Johnson well. (Groupie) Later Air Commodore. For those who don't know - he was the top scorer in the Battle of Britain. Used to fly the Victor as if it was a fighter!

I would agree with your father that photograph was taken at RAF Akrotiri looking across the aircraft pans with Limossol in the background.

Excellent pics: I wonder what the view must have been like from that flight deck!

Sailor & JEJ is a great photo, as I look behind my office desk at a print "The Sailor" of him in his Spitfire, signed by J E Johnson

We were still operating from those huts at St Mawgan some 30 years later on UAS Summer Camps (remember them - the RAF can't afford them any more... ).

Great shots from the days when there still was a real RAF! And no tents, sand or cabbage kit to be seen in any of them!

Question Interesting entry door.

Looking at the Victor's entry door it's apparent that it's not of the plug type, which is the very best kind to have for pressurized aircraft as it cannot fail (allegedly). But then perhaps rapid egress is the reason the door resembles a laundry chute?

An impressive rack of gongs being sported by the late Shah of Persia. Note: sunglasses; pair of; one: required equipment for viewing the exalted personage on a sunny day least the reflected glint take out the unprotected retina. Didn't realize that his excellence was that accomplished, but then being able to award gongs to oneself possibly gives something of a biased advantage. One for Bob-a-Job week, one for Benevolent Dictator, one for Master of the Persian Universe, etc, etc. Those flanking him possibly earned their accolades and associated medals in an uncouth scrummage known as WWII. If so the contrast is sharp, but perhaps I'm being cynical.

PS. The RAF can't afford the UAS experience, the RN can't send a significant force to police North Korea. Not just sad, actually quite worrying.
