Flight International make Archives available, free access
Flight International magazine have started a project to make their picture, magazine and cutaway archives freely available to all. The project is in its infancy as yet, the site is only just functional, and is evolving daily.
There are already a thousand of the archive pictures posted, in various categories. These pictures have been scanned from the original glass plates in the Flight Collection, then freshened up. Many of these pictures have not been seen for decades, most having been used in the magazine, then stored. It is hoped that this collection will continue to grow, it is possible to request subjects, that can then be found in the files and added to the list available. Subjects already seen include various Air Races, Post-war airliners and very early aviation. Captions for these pictures have been prepared, and should be added very soon. For now, it is fun to see if you can provide your own captions.
Another aspect of this site will be the entire back library of Flight International magazines being scanned in as PDFs, then optically word recognised, so they can be searched for key words. This will include all pictures as well. This is already underway, only samples on offer as yet, but it looks promising for the future.
A third aspect to the site will be the availablity of the Flight collection of cut-away views and technical drawings, that they have been famous for over the past 100 years of aviation publishing. These are presently being digitised.
This site should become a major source of reference material, but will also be great to just wander through, enjoying the various gems of history that otherwise would have been hidden away for ever.

This, goes against PPRuNe's rules of advertising. It is now closed.
However, should you wish to take up a contract with PPRuNe for an advertising contract we will be happy to discuss it.
