Old Cargo Aircraft

I'm trying to write a story for my own entertainment but I'd still like to get it right...so I'd really appreciate your kind assistance with a couple of details;

Once the last example of a particular type of aircraft is struck off the UK register, would an operator who wanted to re-introduce the type for UK operations have to go through the CAA type-approval process again?

If the said operator wanted to operate a type of aircraft not type-approved in the UK (eg Antonov An22), would he have to have it type-approved or could it be operated on a "flag of convenience" using foreign aircrews and FBOs?

Boring questions, I'm sorry...

Thanks in advance
