Post War Leuchars crash

A friend of mine is trying to chase up details of a crash he observed as a young man. It was at a display at Leuchars, circa 1947 and he believed that it may have been a Spitfire. Apparently it broke up during an "Open Day" display?
Any information and or suggestions would be welcomed.
