deperdussin coming alive
these are a selection of photographs of the building of a replica 1912 deperdussin that my uncle jack gillies is undertaking at his hangar at essendon airport in victoria.
this aircraft is of significance to our family because jacks father and our grandfather put the first one together in australia at point cook in 1913. it was built for the australian government as a trainer and could usually only be flown in the early morning or late afternoon as it was very light and with warp wing control was difficult to handle in any sort of wind.
jack gillies was an ansett captain for many many years as were his sons paul and jeffery and my father ron.
jack is one of the best aircraft restorers, his aicraft are works of art. as you can see from these photographs nothing short of perfection is good enough.
we are proud of you jack.
i will post some more photos when they come available.
