Cool

Supermarine Walrus (Seagull) in RAN Fleet Air Arm service

I'm curious about the Frigate(?). Any idea which ship it may be? RAN or RAN?

Hi.

It's a Royal Australian Navy Cruiser - unidentified, according to the Australian War Memorial who have a copy of the pic in their archive. Could be HMAS Perth, Sydney, Australia, etc...

Do you mind sharing your Dad's name? It would be worth having a look at the AWM website - they have a lot on 10 Sqn Sunderlands (and ONE WAlrus - a very ellusive aircraft...) As you may now know, I'm working on a Walrus book - almost finished...

Cheers

my grandfather, norman gillies,

pop built the first of these and the bristol boxkite from 1912,

he went to mesopotamia in wwi with the first half flight.

in 1922 he was given the number 26 in the raaf.

my father, ron gillies, grew up at point cook and at the outbreak of ww2 went to england and 10 squadron, he became the youngest person at 23 to lead an australian squadron. he left england as a wing commander and was given the rank of acting gc in the pacific.

in england he developed the first flight simulator to train his own aircrew.

uncle jack,

graeme.
