Variable geometry

So what was the worlds first VG aircraft? My bid is for the Polikarpov IS-2 of c1939 which could change from biplane to high wing monoplane in flight.

Seriously wacky, the undercarriage retracted into the lower wing, and the latter folded into the fuselage side, with the outboard section fitting into the top wing.

Any precedent? anything weirder?

French plane from about 1920 that I've forgotten the name of. Others will rush to the rescue.
