What is it??
Found a picture of my uncle standing in front of a plane & I'm not sure what it is. Anyone have any ideas? Believe the picture was taken at the International airport in Malaysia in the early 70's. Thanks, Ken

The aircraft looks like an Aero 45, a Czech-built four seat twin designed in the late 1940s.

There was an Aero 45 registered 9M-AOF - maybe this is the one in the picture?
I think there was a book written about an attempted round the world flight by this aircraft (or was it a Gemini?).

The aircraft is certainly an Aero 45 with 2 speed props (fine and coarse).
The building in the background is terminal 1 of the Sultan Aziz Shah International Airport in Subang, Kualal Lumpur. This building was vacated with the opening of KLIA in July 1998, and has since been demolished.

Further information on 9M-AOF
Super Aero 45 Srs 04
Built by Strojirny Prvni Petilesky, in 1957
Construction number 06.014
First registered as F-BILP,
then 9M-AOF, became G-AYLZ 2 November 1970.
C of A expired 1976.
But still current on UK register.
So looking at the timescales this might be the one in the picture.

A second picture show my uncle shaking hands with Mike. "John Chow wishes Mike 'Happy Landings'."

The more I think of it, I think the book is about a Miles Gemini flight. I used to have a copy of the book in my garage (don't ask). It may have migrated indoors - if I come across it I will let you know the details.

One was also painted up as the worlds worst Heinkel 111 representation for airshow German warbird sequences which seemed to be all the rage in the mid-late '80s. Alongside that equally naff homebuilt FW190 scale replica and poor old Lindsay Waltons Noord 1002 which must be the most shot down aeroplane in history!!
