Bac 1-11

Some info for the 1-11 watchers ROAF is using the simulators at Cranebank again this month.

5N-HHH the resident Southend model has been moved to the stripping out area and is being worked on, perhaps someone can confirm that it is soon to be broken up.

ROAF?? I presume you mean RAFO - Royal Air Force of Oman
They are the only operator of the Bac 1-11 who bought their aircraft off the production line and are still using the same airframes 28 years on! Hopefully they will continue flying for many years to come.

On the subject of BAC 111s, can anyone advise on the current disposition of the two ex-Air Pacific aircraft which went back to the U.K.? IIRC they went to the RAE and the Blind Flying Unit. Are they still around?

Cheers

One of the RAE 1-11´s is frequently seen (and heard ) in EDVE, so obviously still in use.

Thanks for that update. I have since established that the two aeroplanes in question are:

C/N 245 ZE433 (ex DQ-FBQ)
C/N 250 ZE432 (ex DQ-FBV)

I believe that the RAE have several other BAC111s. I'm curious to know if these two are still active as Mrs Fairing used to work on them.

Cheers

RAE 1-11's

The RAE have three BAC 1-11's still active

ZE432
ZE433
ZH763

All three based at Boscombe Down. I dont know if ZE433 still has a different nose as it was used for the Eurofighter Typhoon radar trials. In a private museum at Boscombe Down they have the nose section of XX919 which was broken up a few years ago.

Another aircraft XX105 which was the oldest flying 1-11 until June this year is also stored there since being withdrawn in June 2003.

I cant remember which magazine it was in but there was recently an article entitled '1-11's in Uniform' giving details and history of 1-11's that have served in the military role.

Regards

ZE 433 is alive and well and flying from Edinburgh, with a Typhoon radome containg a Captor radar. In the future it may be operating from France on flight trials of JOANNA (a new-generation targetting pod)

26451 and wub

Many thanks for that information. It's nice to know they are both still going strong. I seem to recall that what made the two Air Pacific aeroplanes attractive to the RAE was that although they were fairly high time, their cycles were comparatively low because of Air Pacific's long sectors. Here's an image of ZE433 in her former incarnation as DQ-FBQ:
