Speaking of Brabazon, what aircraft would you bring back?

all of the above . . . .
and
Fairy Gannet
Fairy Rotordyne
Bristol Freighter
Avro York
Cierva Autogiro
Miles Marathon
Short Sunderland or any big flying boat
VC10
etc etc
but the aeroplane I'd really like to see in the air again, and possibly based at Shuttleworth, is a Mosquito.
and of course, Concorde, but not necessarily based at Shuttleworth

A great list of suggestions! My choice would be the Curtiss engined Fairy Fox, a beautiful aeroplane and faster than the fighters of its day. My father flew them with 12 Squadron, and took part in one of the early Empire Air Days, at Hendon I think.
Not many built, but a classic, and looked better than the Rolls Royce engined version in my opinion

If we're talking Saunders Roe, then make it the SR53. It represented the swansong of British fighter development - before the wretched Duncan Sandys killed the UK manned fighter programme for ever - the last fighter being the Lightning; SR 177 would have followed SR53..........
No, on second thoughts, let's stick to the 'Termite Queen' - the DH Hornet!

Misty eyes...
As a died in the wool Miles enthusiast (Naaaaaaah! Really?......You'd never have guessed -
So - apart from every Miles aircraft that was ever built...
The aircraft I would really like to see in the sky -
FW Condor
THe DH aircraft that looked like a big Rapide with 4 engines ( I know I could look it up but I'm a bit stretched today..) - wow - wouldn't that be welcome at Woburn?? Wasn't somebody hoping to recreate one some time back?
DH Albatross
JU87
JU88
Do17
ME110
FW190 - what a machine the Butcher Bird was. Can you just imagine what a crowd puller that would be?
Defiant
Hampden.................................................
Dream on.

I can't really narrow it down to one or two, but various types stand out for me:
Handley Page HP42 - what an incredible piece of engineering that was for it's time.
XB-70 Valkyrie - WOW!
Beaufighter - because I've got a bit of a thing for them.
Me262 - in formation with an early Boeing 737, so that I could see whether Boeing really did copy the wing planform...
And of course all the extinct types which carried our young men into, but unfortunately not always out of, harms way between 1939 and 1945. Stirling, Whitley, Albemarle, Manchester, Maryland, Baltimore....

I can distinctly remember the Brabazon flying over our house near Pondtail, Fleet that year. S'funny, whenever I conjure up that thought, it's always that particular view, and it's static. I even think we ran indoors because it frightened us. Shadowy. Same feeling I guess the Zeppelin must have made over the stadium in Berlin in '36.
So I'd like to compare it with the Do-X please.
And yes, Hairy, a FW-190 too. Got a whiff of it last year when the fully blown replica started it's (Chinese?) engine for the first time in public at Manching. Didn't last long, but what a throaty roar!
And I'd like to hear for real the noise a Doodlebug made (and them shoot it down wiv me cannon).
And now, over the black sheds, the Bristol 188.....

I agree with the DH Hornet (sadly, unlikely).
I also agree with a FW 190, preferably an 'A' variant (possible).
But let's get Bf 109G2 "Black 6" airborne again. It may be in Hendon, but it needs very little work.........

In order of preference
Any of the large Russian Ekranoplans, like the KM with 10
engines weighing in at 540 tonnes and capable of 500 kph, or
the A90 Orlyonok.
Any of the large Airships, in particularly a Zeppelin.
Numerous Squadrons of B17s flying overhead. Its a noise thing.
Lastly the unique jet powered Viscount, or did I dream it

I suppose that strictly speaking all Viscounts are jet powered but I know the one you mean: or are we both thinking of the Avro Ashton?

Lomcevak: I thought so! (not regarding landings he added hastily!) Best riposte ever! I am determined to buy you a pint and to bend your arm a little in a different direction. We have something slightly (in my case) in common!
Best regards,
Treadders
