Well done indeed, Airedane. Extremely glad to know you're back at the helm again as Captain.

Our little PA28 4-ship was due off at 0930 for a qucik whizz around the Cotswolds; unfortunately without me as I'll be peering down from some airway in the back of a Frankfurt-bound LH flight from Birmigoom. But hopefully I'll be able to see others enjoying the day.

Good luck for all at OW - looks like a perfect day even for the Boxkite?

Congratulations Airbedane on getting back into the driving seat. Hope you all have a great time at OW and elsewhere. I'll raise a glass of vodka to the Wrights and your good selves at the appropriate time (4 hours ahead here)

There I was at Birmigoom airport waiting for my flight when on came the Shuttleworth Collection on BBC News 24 (that's on Sky 507 for those of us with 'council-house TV')!. Excellent to see the Boxkite flying in perfect conditions and some sensible interviewing. One of the Beeb's better efforts!

So I just had to ring Airbedane to tell him! Hope the Tiger Moth trip goes well, you lucky old bug.ger!

Smile Thanks!

Thanks to Vintage ATCO and everybody else at Old Warden for an excellent day today. Very enjoyable!

Thanks also to Luton Approach who were doing a great job dealing with large numbers of aircraft (including me) today.

Nice to meet Man-on-the-Fence today as well. You did take lots of pictures of that very shiny, but slightly mud splattered, blue and white C172 landing (well bouncing actually) today. Didn't you?

Made it!!

Well I drove like a madman up the A1. Left Welwyn GC at 15:15 and drove in the gates at Old Warden at 15:35 just in time to swing into a space and jump out to watch the boxkite start its takeoff waddle.

Classic scenes. What beautiful end to a winter day. Watching the boxkite flying in the sunset. I hope MOTF (who I assume was one of the characters on the roof by the tower) does it justice with his photos.

Still did not have the nerve to ask who was PPRuNer!

Thanks to everyone who organised it.

Phoenix

Likewise.
What was the Reg? I managed to take about 75% of the visitors one way or another.

Piccies are still coming off the camera so I will have to post later. It was good to meet so many Ppruners who came up to me and said hi, maybe we should have a bash there someday?

An excellent day out, a big thanks to all at Old Warden for making it so special.

Pics later.

MOTF

Yes I was one, along with Damien and a couple of others.

Try asking "Do you Prune?" If you get a blank look walk away mumbling, they already think you are mad so why not just confirm it

Thumbs up

Well done to all those involved in putting on today's event at OW.
I managed to hitch a ride down from Leicester and it was well worth it. Got my nostalgia fix to keep me going for a while - but roll on summer!

2 hours on the road and I have been downloading for 3/4 hour already. Next year I shall purchase a new Pornograph so I can do things quicker.

What a day we had - thanks to all for the good wishes.

Beagle - you did indeed call - nice to hear from you on such an important day, and also to learn that the BEEB had put Shuttleworth in the limelight for the morning, at least.

MOTF - don't forget to post the agreed pictures.......

DamienB - well done for making it at the last minute.

Grandad Biggles - did you enjoy watching the Box from 1500ft in the Tiger at 1535Z, (or 1035 Eastern Standard Time).

I know Vintage ATCO is going to tabulate the full compliment of visitors, but I believe the final number was over 100 - well done and thanks to all who made it.

I'll now sit back and await the evidence from MOTF..............

Here's to the next 100 years,
Best Wishes,
Airbedane

The first batch!!

The morning began bright but a bit misty

A few of the old timers were brought out to enable the Boxkite to be brought out of the hangar

The first arrival

G-KEST was another early arrival, congratulations on getting your DA back.

Dodgewilville Bailey-Wright recreates that famous flight )with more success than the Septics did.

Crowded skies (yes I did cut the trailing plane off in the original)

Is it made of balsa and tissue paper. It just makes you realize how far we have come in 100 years.

Splendid photos MOTF.

It was certainly a good day for taking photos, although a bit "brass monkeys" early on.

My special thanks to all who were involved in the organisation or operation for today's event.
Also thanks to all those who came along either by road, foot or air.
What a fantastic day

Airbedane: There will be only few people who have the pleasure of flying with you and only one who did it at 1535 (1035 EST) on 17th October 2003. I will treasure the memory
Thanks

For those who had never been to OW before, it was good to see you and hopefully you will come again when next we fly.
Don't forget to tell all your friends either about our summer events that bring back all the nostalgia and feeling of well being that is difficult to find equal elsewhere.

Thanks again to all

Koliber arrives, nice to meet you.

At least one Hawk makes it through, and bravely manages without a full Radar service.

Dodgewilville Bailey-Wright makes time to entertain a Lady of the Press “well hello”

A bit of Lunchtime entertainment

Denny (plus brand new sponsor) departs without attracting attention to himself

Mr Stiknruda I presume

Airbedane and his DA

Throughout the morning there were rumblings that Airbedane had got his DA back. Sure enough he turned up with his aircraft, lit the wick

And launched

Sometimes things don’t go according to plan

But like a shot he was over to rescue the day (see he was running so fast I couldn’t focus properly)

Looks like a normal day at Coltishall

Right, a few more from me and then I shall retire and leave the field to you MOTF. The holiday snaps from my morning elsewhere can wait for another day!

An Interesting little Mexican number

Airbedane sallies forth in Hairyplane’s Falcon

VintageATCO is forcibly sent up in a Tigger to see what the poor pilots have to put up with.

The evening flight

Not sure if grin is real or just frozen there

Not a bad time to have your first hop in a Boxkite

Thanks for all your kind words, as I think I have said I have about 75% of the arrivals so send me your reg and I’ll post what I have .

A very big thanks to all at Old Warden for organising this. See you all next year.
