Shuttleworth Autumn Display Piccies
Well that’s it, the seasons over. The fine Ladies and Gentlemen of Old Warden have yet again surpassed themselves with a wonderful days flying. A pity the LVG didn’t fly, but there you go, one has been spoilt by her over the summer.
By way of celebration for a magnificent summer of displays I have gone overboard with photos this time, so apologies if it is a long post. I have really enjoyed myself there this year, a big thanks to all involved, roll on next May.

Absolutely cracking pictures from you and chum DamienB - love the formation shots of you 2 at the fence also!
Brilliant picture of the JP inverted - if only to illustrate why you should 'nt fly with a dirty bottom.
Come on guys - if you are going to show your bird off remember that 'bottie shots' are just as exciting (baaaaaah!)
Miles Falcon - having decided (ish) to pass it on to a lucky new owner ( they will need to pass an adoption style interview and have no export agenda!)I take comfort that there will be plenty of wonderful photographs for misty-eyed reminiscences in my dotage.
It is a drop-dead gorgeous aircraft and a very important part of our aviation heritage - so few Miles aircraft left of the several thousands built (14 flying worldwide I believe).
It has been an enormous priviledge to fly it so much since acquisition in 01.
Maggie will emerge next season - courtesy of the gifted Shuttleworth engineers - with the correct N3788 registration (see MMMmmmiles Aircraft thread) etc. etc. and a worthy concours contender - watch out Speed Six and Messenger 'WB @ G-VFWE! (Still looking for some undercarriage parts by the way - somebody somewhere has a set of 'Airdraulic' legs ).
Lets see if we can get some cracking air to airs from either the Maggie or the Robin in 04.

Some great shots again, I particularly like the one of the pilot in the Tiger Moth looking "for the Hun in the sun". I assume he really knew it was grounded. But what's this about the end of the season. There's another Duxford this weekend with one or two RAF items that don't usually appear there e.g. the Nimrod and Jaguar. Mind you they'll have to go some to equal the SAA 747 at the last show.

Hear hear to MoTF (the Hoople? Have I dun that pun before?) and to Damien indeed....
Great shots of the two of them, watch out for next season's new act, the Long Lenses, with an amazing mirror act! There's probably a fund of jokes in there, loops (spool backwards!), I'm going home...

I am pretty new to this forum but over the past couple of months I have been looking at your's and Damien's photo's from Old Warden.
I would just like to say that both your pictures are superb.
I have not been able to get to Old Warden for the last 5 years ( the last show being when the MATS Connie displayed there in 1998, don't suppose you took any pictures of the Connie there did you ) so looking at both sets of pictures brings back happy memories.

In 1998 I lived around 10 minutes' drive away in Bedford, but as local advertising of the events was zero, I never even knew it existed and so never attended any shows there until either 2000 or 2001.
Airbedane - that's something that doesn't appear to have changed - on the way in yesterday there were signs on local roads advertising a craft fair next weekend, but I've not seen any advertising the airshows... except for one big board advertising the proms. Just think of all that traffic going between the A1 and M1 and what a pair of signs on the A421 could do!

Up untill 1998 I went to Old Warden about 3 times a year every year starting in the early 1960s when my Dad used to take me, 5 bob to get in then.
My Dad also had on display in one of the hangers at Old Warden for over 20 years his 1-12 scale Hawker Hind model and also his 1-12 scale Mosquito for a time, the Mosquito then went to the Mosquito Museum at Hatfield to be displayed, I have them both back at home now.
Thats why yours and MOTF pictures bring back some great memories.

I think I was in nappies the last time I went. Before the second Military Pagent this year, I hadnt been for nearly 30 years (I'm 35 now!!), my problem was always getting enough film (not anymore
).
As the saying goes, the second time I visited I joined the SVAS and haven't looked back. I dont know of any other aviation establishment that I have visited that gives me goose bumps each time I go like OW does.
Talking of Geese, anyone notice this chap walking in the crowd Sunday? Frightfully good costume what!!

Whilst being constructive, avoiding date clashes with Duxford wouldnt go a miss, their two day events arent such a worry but the clash with the May Air Display was surprising. Not that the decision is a hrd one to make, but some less enlightened may make an error of judgement.

Never mind the Duxford May clash, just don't clash with the Abingdon Fayre next time... or at least send Neil there a Spitfire or Hurricane as the BBMF have let him down two years running now

Some years ago, Old Warden displays were on the last Sunday and middle Saturday of the month. Duxford displays stated to clash, so Old Warden moved to the first Sunday of the month - then so did Duxford............
