Warship - Channel 5

I watched one of the episodes of 'Warship on Channel Five this evening as it was about aircraft carriers.

I knew it was going to be 'good' when in the first few minutes the Army Major, standing on the deck of a Navy carrier and talking about RFC aircraft, made the statement "of course, one hundred years ago, there was no such thing as an aircraft carrier".

100 years ago, there was no such thing as an aircraft either!

The programme did redeem itself later with a D.H Hornet and isn't it strange how Seafires with the outer wings removed at the fold fly nearly as well as fully-winged examples?

Yes - the Sea Hornet was an interesting snippet. But weren't your 'Seafires' actually Fireflies?

Didn't see the programme so can't comment about which it was.

But I do recall hearing a story about a Seafire that was being junked overboard getting aloft minus the outer wings after being fired off the catapult - anyone know the full story?

Treadders,

Don't know about the Seafire, but have seen the clips of a U.S. Navy Crusader taking off from a carrier with wings folded. Pilot got the damn thing back again, as well!
