So where are they going ?

I think I remember something about Delta buying 717s for parts ? I can't prove that so maybe my memory is slipping.

It's at least getting to be an entertaining topic:

Delta just put out a bulletin saying they're buying 14 717s from Boeing to be used as parts donors. No mention of where Boeing is getting them.

Think you’ll find QF leased some of the mad dogs from BCC so Boeing owns them already and QF are returning the aircraft to its owners.

Interesting that NJS are still advertising for B717 crew. How long before all the B717 are gone?

Aussie B717's are technically, not Mad dogs, which is more applicable to the MD80 and its ilk. I have heard the 71's referred to as an "Angry puppy" being a smaller version of a proper Mad dog.

Capt Fathom 28th Apr 2023 10:52

B717 was originally an MD95. So definitely a MadDog!

Transition Layer 28th Apr 2023 14:37

Let’s be honest, they’re actually DC-9s

:ok: :ok: :ok:

Maybe Qantas could send the B717 training dept. and management pilots with them with a one way ticket.

Failed hey. The VIP sqdrn get ya? They'll build you up again

aussieflyboy 29th Apr 2023 08:24

Is it reasonable to assume one of these QF DC9 NEOs has flown more Qantas passengers than one Qantas A380 over its lifetime?

Buckshot 29th Apr 2023 22:31

There are ex-Ansett DC9's still flying with US Navy at almost 50 years old. Life in the Mad Dogs yet

Spotted in LAX on the way to Victorville for storage.

Ouch. That's the long way round. Flightaware history suggests that since 18 Apr, the routing was:
CBR-ASP-BME-SUB-SZB-BLR-AAN-SSH-CAI-SOF-SVG-KEF-YYR-YQT-LAX-VCB arriving at VCV on 27 Apr.

Capn B,

Definitely not into Facebook. My question was more along the lines of a potential destination airline for the 717s and not a geographic location. Poor wording on my part.

markis10 5th May 2023 07:03

I wonder if the 717s demise is premature given the engine issues with its replacement
